We’re looking for a Workshop Manager with a solid engineering background in heavy haulage or plant to head up the workshop at our Tuxford depot. Working alongside our Operations Manager, you’ll be the one making sure the day-to-day actually happens.
This isn't a role for someone who wants to stay in the office; it is for a leader who knows the equipment inside out and can use that knowledge to keep morale high, the workflow moving, and the standards where they need to be. It’s a role for someone who knows how to support a team of fitters and run a smooth operation without letting a customer or a teammate down.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Keeping the bays moving: Coordinating the daily workload to ensure the workshop runs efficiently and jobs stay on track.
- Technical Leadership: Acting as the go to for technical advice, using your engineering/mechanical knowledge to help the team solve complex problems on heavy haulage and plant equipment.
- Setting the standard: Leading by example so the team takes as much pride in the finish as you do.
- Fair and consistent: Rewarding hard work and having the confidence to correct things when quality slips.
- Supporting the team: Acting as the go-to for technical advice and solving problems with your fitters.
- Specialist authority: Acting as the key link between the workshop and the office, providing guidance on specialist trailers like Nooteboom, Goldhofer, Faymonville, and Doll.
- Operational control: Keeping a steady hand on the "numbers", reviewing incoming work, providing accurate job quotes, and ensuring the workshop remains productive.
- Safety and standards: Ensuring every job meets DVSA and customer compliance.
What You’ll Bring
- Technical expertise: Extensive experience in heavy haulage, abnormal load trailers, or a strong engineering background.
- Leading the Team: The ability to manage the lads and keep the workshop moving while still being happy to get stuck in when needed.
- Commercial common sense: You’re comfortable talking numbers and understand how a well-managed workload translates into a successful business.
- Reliability: A genuine belief in doing a job properly and not letting your teammates down.
- Strong communication: The ability to talk clearly and effectively with the office, the stores team, and your fitters.
What You’ll Get
- Competitive pay based on experience
- 28 days holiday, including bank holidays
- Additional holidays and enhanced sick pay with service
- 24/7 life insurance at 2.5× annual pay
- Training opportunities to help you build your skills
- Pension and wellbeing support
